A collaboration of Genetic Anthropology and Photography providing the definitive map of human migration from a common ancestor 60,000 years ago in southern Africa, to the incredible diversity on earth today. This five-year project culminated in the National Geographic film, cover story and book, The Journey of Man.

A beautiful girl is found dead in a snowy field near Fargo, North Dakota. Internet rumours suggest that she had flown from Tokyo in search of the millions of dollars buried in the snow in the Coen Brothers film Fargo. Did she believe the films subtitle "this is a true story"? This tv documentary is shot entirely as photographs and follows her journey through eyewitness accounts to reveal a much darker and tragic truth. Commissioned for Channel Four and directed by Paul Berczeller "This is a True Story" was nominated for a BAFTA in 2005.

Sierra Leone has come out of a 10 year civil war which has left terrible scars on its population; many of it's young were kidnapped, forced to kill and addicted to cocaine, leaving a shaken generation who had indulged in the most wanton violence. The rehabilitation process has begun, with agricultural projects, occupational therapy for amputees and former child soldiers from both sides of the conflict re-inventing themselves as Hip Hop stars in Freetown.

Lapland : The Parting of the Herd

At the beginning of winter the 5000 strong herd of reindeer is brought down from the summer pastures, where the Saami families gather for the annual parting of the herd. They recognize their animals from the intricate series of cuts in the ears and then wrestle them from the coral into the family pens. Due to new EU legislation the Saami people are no longer allowed to slaughter their own animals and so this ancient way of life is being steadily eroded. Commissioned by the Observer.

Togo: child trafficking

The children of Togo are under constant threat of being trafficked into slavery. Some of the victims themselves become the traffickers, luring other vulnerable children from lives of poverty. They are taken to the cocoa fields, in neighbouring Nigeria, where they are forced to work in terrible conditions in which many die. Commissioned by Plan International and the Guardian

CAMFED: I have a story to tell

The women in this book, through Camfed's sponsorship, have received an education and became incredible role models to young girls in rural Zimbabwe. The portraits are accompanied by the stories of their journeys, often through adversity, and are written in the powerful voices of the women themselves. The Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) is dedicated to fighting poverty and AIDS in rural communities in Africa by educating girls. I continue to work with Camfed, whose impact in these African communities is remarkable.
